Can Atlantic Canada’s H2 strategies compete in a global ‘squared circle’

Hydrogen: Can Atlantic Canada’s H2 strategies compete in a global ‘squared circle’? Analysis / Commentary by Brian McLaughlin (This is the original long-form, and my final, Third Commentary on Hydrogen, published in BNI’s Telegraph Journal online, and within its other in print daily and weekly broadsheet newspapers across New Brunswick.) “If you know the enemy

One man’s trash, another man’s treasure

I was fortunate to have grandparents that lived across the street in the suburbs of my hometown outside of Johannesburg, South Africa.  Preschool days were spent not in daycare, but doing life with grandpa, “Oupa Jan”.  I watched and helped my tinkering hero tend to his orchard of fruit trees for making preserves and jam, harvest grapes from his small vine for making wine, work compost from his own pile into the garden, slaughter and clean hens for dinner and a myriad other daily projects that turned my days into a blur of adventurous activities.

Decarbonizing Industrial Heating

The path to net zero requires the participation of every industry segment. In the report Renewables 2021, the International Energy Agency (IEA) reported that heat is the world’s largest energy end use, with industrial processes responsible for just over half of the energy consumed for heat, representing 26% of global emissions. Industrial production growth is expected to continue, and so emission declines will come from energy efficiencies, some uptake in renewables (fuels and electricity), through significant deployment of CCUS and the implementation of hydrogen as a fuel.

2021 in Review

The sun has set on 2021 and what a year it has been! A year in which consensus support were cemented for the crucial role hydrogen will play in a net zero future.  Countries are developing strategies and implementing incentives. Companies are building out capacity and energy producers are shifting their strategies to embrace hydrogen as a key energy source.  Much more needs to be done and at Nu:ionic, we are excited to offer solutions that accelerate this major energy transition.  During the last year we achieved significant technical milestones and are working on several projects for the commercial demonstration of our Teal Hydrogen technology.  We also initiated several adjacent applications of our Intellectual Property in for decarbonization.  These developments are setting us on a path for significant growth in the coming year.

Helping You Achieve Your Net Zero Goals, Today

Natural gas is widely used in North America as a fuel for heating homes, offices and industrial processes. In fact, by analyzing data published by Energy Information Agency (EIA) and the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) we estimate that approximately 37% of the total natural gas consumption in the USA and Canada is combusted as fuel in the industrial, commercial and residential sectors. This corresponds to almost 35,000,000 MMBTU of energy per day, accounting for approximately 735,000,000 tons per year of CO2 emissions.

2020 In Review: A Historic Year For Renewable Energy And A Bright Future

As we reflect upon the year and look ahead to the next, it’s clear that 2020 has undoubtedly been a historic one, both for the world and for us at Nu:ionic. In some ways, it feels as though we’ve lived through 10 years worth of events in a single trip around the sun, most encouraging of which would be the acceleration in commitment and adoption of clean, renewable energy. This year we have witnessed companies, governments and most notably, investors, all get serious about cleaning up the energy economy and it seems we’ve made more than 10 years worth of progress toward a cleaner future, in 2020 alone.
